Poly Students Move On To National History Day

Several Poly students placed second in different catagories at the Maryland History Day competition and that allows them to move on to the National History Day Competition in June. CLICK ON THE HEADLINE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE.

Baltimore City will once again be represented at the national level of the competition for the sixth year in a row. The following students are advancing to the national level:

Rebekah Wheatley: Individual Performance “Nothing Is Important” - her topic was on the innovation of the number zero.

Anne Blonder & Max Cushner: Group Documentary “Tin Lizzie and Ford’s Assembly Line” – their topic concerned the innovation of the assembly line.

Joshua Greenspan: Individual Exhibit “It’s About Time” – his topic was on the innovation of time zones.

In addition to placing 2nd in the aforementioned categories, Poly students also claimed two special prizes:

Special Prize in Ethics – Anna Manalad for her Individual Documentary “Changing the Nature of Nature” which focused on eugenics.

Special Prize for use of Primary Sources – Anne Blonder & Max Cushner (see above). In addition to the students winning a prize, the school will also get a small cash prize for promoting the use of primary sources.

The national round of National History Day is held at the University of Maryland College Park in mid June.
